Cake Decorating-Week 2

Here is my creation from tonight's cake decorating class. I am not really liking the instructor and I am trying to figure out WHY she would have us bake cupcakes, shape them into something, then ice them BEFORE we do a nice round or square cake. But, here is what I made, Gaye and I decided that it was a football from the Dollar Tree because the laces are not even. She made a basketball that looked almost as bad as my football. The helper lady kept coming by asking us if we wanted her to "fix" it. NO, leave us alone!!

Matthew seemed to like it. I had to double the buttercream icing recipe from Wilton and I am so glad that I did. I would not have had enough! She had us ice white first, then we got to color the icing to match our creation. I also can't understand why she had us ice with the spatula and not the tips which would have been a lot easier. Next week, we can either bake a cake to ice OR use the styrofoam blocks from the florist. Not sure yet, I may practice on the styrofoam then bake a cake.

I did get signed up for the Wilton class 1 in Valdosta starting on July 7th. We will see how that goes before I decide on Class 2. They are 1/2 off right now at Hobby lobby AND you can use the 1/2 off coupon on the materials for the classes!
