The flu is here!

I knew it was a bad sign when I called the dr's office several weeks ago to see about getting Matthew an appointment for the flu shot and they were out! I was hoping that we would be lucky and not get it, but lo and behold, Brian left at 6:30 Monday morning to go out of town for the week and guess who woke me up at 3:30 Tuesday morning?????? Matthew-as soon as he started babbling, I KNEW he had fever. For some reason my children talk wildly when they run fever. Matthew started asking crazy questions and saying crazy things. I took his temp and it was 104! Thinking maybe I was doing it wrong, I took it with ANOTHER thermometer and it was 104.2.....It took a good 30 minutes for the Motrin to start working enough for him to go back to sleep. He really only slept well for about 30 minutes. finally 2 hours after giving the Motrin, I broke down and gave Tylenol after that and the fever FINALLY came down. Poor Brooke was late to school because it took me forever to find a sub. But I did and I am lucky to have great coworkers who take care of me and let me email plans to them! Then Matthew and I headed to the dr. The nurse came in with that big old ginourmous qtip and Matthew knew it wasnt going to be good. Just as Dr. Stewart came in, the nurse came back in to tell us the swab was positive. So there is nothing that you can really do for flu and they do not like to give Tamiflu to young children so we have to keep the fever down and if he still has high fevers in the morning, we are going back....

He was fine after the dr so we went and got lunch. He played for a little bit when we got home then he wanted to go to sleep. I convinced him to take his jeans off and he wanted his Buzz Lightyear jammies on. He fell asleep in 2 minutes in my arms. He slept for almost 4 hours!!

Now, about 5 pm, he just ran to me and I can feel him getting warm again. I really need to hold off for another hour on the motrin, but may have to give in depending on how high it gets! He is still playing at this moment, but when he gets delirious, I know something is wrong. Poor Brooke may never sleep with us again, she finally looked at him at 4 am and told him to shut up. He kept rolling over on her and telling her that he loved her.

Brooke and Brandon are showing hogs Wednesday in Albany and Thursday they are showing goats.

****As I am typing this, Affinity calls and tells me that Dr. Stewart decided to call in Tamiflu. We were there at 8 AM and they called me back at 5 PM. Go figure!!!
